The Turkish Ministry of Trade will initiate an anti-dumping (AD) investigation on European hot-rolled coils (HRC). Although the authority has not announced the investigation launch, market participants believe that the official announcement will be issued soon.
Turkey has protested to the WTO in March this year against the European Union’s unfair steel import taxes. In 2019, it also considered drafting HRC import quotas to counter the European Union, but there has been no concrete action yet.
According to Turkish official statistics, HRC imports in the first 10 months of this year amounted to around 1.13 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.73%. However, the export volume to Europe was around 1.53 million tons, reducing by 26.91% from the same period a year ago.
