According to the Italian steelmakers association Federacciai, Italy produced approximately 20.3 million tons of crude steel in 2020, decreasing by 12.2% from 2019.
During the period, the output of steel plates slid by 16.2% year on year to about 9.4 million tons, and that of long products dropped by 9.5% year on year to around 11.1 million tons.
In December 2020, Italy produced roughly 1.6 million tons of crude steel, increasing by 15% from the same period a year ago. The output of steel plates was about 830,000 tons and that of long products was roughly 860,000 tons, hiking by 36.5% and 12.3% year on year, respectively.
